BrideSpark vs The Knot: An Honest Free Wedding Planner Comparison (2026)

Short answer: The Knot and BrideSpark are both free. The Knot is the place to go if you want to browse a huge directory of wedding vendors and read their reviews; it's built around that marketplace. BrideSpark is a planner first: budget, checklist, guest list, seating chart, timeline, printable stationery and your website, in one place you and your partner share, in English or French.

How each one stays free

The Knot is first of all a wedding marketplace. Vendors pay for storefronts and better placement so couples find them, and The Knot also earns from its shop, paper stationery and registry. That's why vendor search and inspiration are front and centre.

BrideSpark is free for every couple, with every feature included, and we've promised never to charge for planning. We earn from optional printed stationery and some honeymoon booking links. Our vendor search uses Google Maps listings with their reviews and distance from your venue. No vendor can pay to appear higher.

Planning together

This one surprises people. According to its help centre, The Knot doesn't let you add a second email to your wedding account; couples share one login.

In BrideSpark, your partner joins with their own account and sees the same guest list, budget and checklist, updated live. You can also invite helpers, such as a parent, a maid of honour or your planner. In our own numbers, couples who plan together come back far more often, because the work is shared.

Seating chart and the wedding day

A seating chart is one of the last big jobs, and it's where a planner earns its keep. The Knot's help centre said a digital seating chart was planned for 2026; check whether it's live before you count on it.

BrideSpark's seating chart keeps households together, shows seats left at each table, and prints a seating chart and place cards that fill themselves in. A wedding day timeline builds a minute-by-minute schedule from a few questions, ready to print for your wedding party.

Website, RSVPs and guests

Both do the essentials well: a free website, RSVPs for several events with meal choices, households, and a link that collects guests' addresses. The Knot sells a custom domain. BrideSpark sites live on bridesparkapp.com and come with a photo gallery where guests can add their own photos after the day.

If your families speak French, BrideSpark has the whole website, RSVP pages and guest emails in French and Canadian French, and also in Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian; you choose which language your guests see.

Which should you choose?

Choose The Knot if finding vendors is your biggest job and you want the largest directory with reviews, or you want a custom domain.

Choose BrideSpark if you want one planner you share with your partner (with your own logins), a seating chart and day-of timeline today, free printable stationery, vendor search no one can pay to top, or French for your guests.

You don't have to pick only one. Many couples browse vendors on The Knot and plan everything in BrideSpark, linking their registry from the BrideSpark website.
