Budget tips

  • Catering and the venue usually take 40-45% of the budget together, and both grow with every guest - the guest list is your biggest lever.
  • Keep 5-10% aside for the costs nobody quotes: service charges, tips, taxes, overtime and the last-minute extras.
  • Ask every vendor for the total with taxes and fees included, and when each payment is due.
  • Decide your three priorities together - photos, food, music, a dress - and spend more there and less everywhere else.
  • Count the guests before you book the venue: a room for 150 costs more even if only 90 come.

Questions

Where do these percentages come from?

They're the typical shares of a mid-range wedding: catering and the venue take the most, followed by photography, flowers, music and attire. They're a starting point, not a rule - adjust to what matters to you.

How much does a wedding cost per guest?

Divide your total by your guest count - the calculator shows it above. Food, drink, rentals and stationery grow with every guest, so cutting ten guests saves more than most other changes.

What if we don't need a category?

Untick it. Its share is spread over the categories you keep, in the same proportions.

Can I save my budget?

Yes - start a free BrideSpark wedding and your budget starts with these same categories. Then add real quotes, deposits and due dates, and get a reminder before each payment.

Is the calculator free to put on my website?

Yes. Copy the code above into any page that accepts HTML. It shows a small "by BrideSpark" link and nothing else - no ads, no tracking.
